Jennifer O’Keeffe
Jenn O’Keeffe is a field epidemiologist specializing in mortality estimation in crisis-affected populations. Her research aims to leverage mortality data for better resource allocation in humanitarian aid. She completed her dissertation comparing methods of mortality estimation and has worked on measuring mortality in crises in CAR, Tigray, and the DRC.
Beyond her work on mortality, Jenn has conducted research in infectious disease epidemiology and health systems strengthening. Recent projects include analyzing the effectiveness of case area targeted interventions on cholera transmission, assessing the effects of COVID-19 on health service utilization among refugee populations, drawing key lessons from community-based surveillance of Ebola Virus Disease, and quantifying the impact of attacks on healthcare.
Before joining JHSPH, Jenn spent nearly in humanitarian contexts, working as a field epidemiologist with Médecins Sans Frontières and Rebuild Hope for Africa, as well as in research, monitoring, and evaluation roles with the International Rescue Committee, and International Medical Corps.
She holds a PhD from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and an MPH from Columbia University.
