Donatella received her MSc at the Faculty of Medicine, with major on health system management from University “La Sapienza” in Rome Italy and her M.A in International Politics with a specialization in Human Rights at Paris XI-Faculté Jean Monnet, Droit- Economie (2003). For the past twenty years, she has been engaged in international disaster response programs worldwide with a special focus on Emergency Health. 

She has earned an acclaimed reputation for professionalism, dedication, and a high level of managerial leadership that is rare in our industry. Ms. Massai participated at the reactivation effort of the Global Task Force on Cholera control, following the requested the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General.  Ms. Massai was in charge of the ZIKA preparedness and coordinated the regional response activities in the South and Central American Region for UNICEF. In her role, Ms. Massai demonstrated her long expertise in public health emergency response, showing great leadership, vast knowledge of health protocols, and strong communications skills to help bring this epidemic under control 

She worked as Country Director and Medical Coordinator with Medécins Sans Frontierès (Doctor Without Border), Desk officer for Latin America and the Caribbean. She was the General Director of International Organization such as Greenpeace, Amnesty International, and Robert. F. Kennedy Foundation in Italy. With UNICEF she was Emergency Health responsible for the Cholera outbreak in Haiti and Emergency health officer for the West and Central Africa region. She has conducted several kinds of research and evaluations in the epidemics, health emergency and humanitarian health field for organizations such as WHO, the Red Cross movement, Save the Children, and International Consortiums. She speaks fluently English, French, and Spanish. Ms. Massai was awarded the “Fiorino d’oro” the honor medal of the City of Florence when she was serving as Country Director for in Indonesia.
